3 Reasons Your Photographs Look Bad and How You Can Fix Them
Many people seem to be born with a natural ability to take a good photograph. They seemingly point their camera lens at an object and the resulting picture is always amazing. Then there are those of us who simply don’t appear to have the knack for capturing photographs; even still objects seem to stump us!
However, it is possible to take good pictures, and more often than not, there are reasons why your photographs don’t look great. Are you making some of these mistakes and ruining those perfect shots?
Inadequate Lighting
Even if you have the most expensive camera on the market, the lighting of your shot can make or break how the final composition will look. Adequate lighting is essential for taking a good photograph; after all, the whole concept of photography is based off light and how it is transmitted into the sensors in the camera.

Even outdoor environments can benefit from additional lighting every now and again, especially when it comes to creating and casting shadows to add a little more depth to your pictures.Flashes can help make this easier, but we’d advise separate flashes rather than built in or pop up flashes as these can often create a harsh, unnatural light.
Make sure you have a balance of light and dark and you’re well on your way to natural looking photos!
Choosing a Bad Time to Photograph
Although there’s no right or wrong time to take a photograph, there are times during a day where it is much easier to snap a perfect picture than others.

Early morning and early evening are when natural lights are at their best quality, and this will greatly reflect in how the resulting picture looks. Although you can’t always guarantee that will be when you are going to be snapping pictures (such as during a midday wedding, for example), you should always try and aim for these periods to reduce the amount of editing you will have to do later to perfect your shot.
You’re Worried What Other People Think
Even wedding photographers should take heed with this advice; take photos of what you want rather than what you think other people will want.

You will have some idea in your own mind as to what you think is a great photo, so try and replicate that image through your photographs. Think of the scene in front of you and pick out the parts that stand out the most to you. Capture those moments and you are sure to be happy with the outcome, especially if you have your camera set up correctly!
Photography does take time and effort to perfect, and if you are really looking for those incredible photo memories that you can treasure forever, it’s important to understand how you can make them the best that they can be; both through the camera and your own skill.
