How to choose the right DSLR camera

When you are first starting out in photography, it can seem to be a confusing world. There are lots of different tips, tricks and techniques to get used to and that is even before we think about the equipment that you need to use to get your photos.

One of the most popular types of camera out there is a DSLR camera. However, with so many different options out there to consider, it can be hard to find which one is going to be right for you. To help you we have put together some of our top tips on how to choose a DSLR camera that is going to be right for you and your needs.

Think about your experience

It comes as no surprise that if you are a newcomer to photography that you are going to need a camera that is relatively easy to use, easy to get to grips with and affordable as well. After all, you may find that you only use it for holidays or perhaps special events, which means that you are not going to want to spend out too much money.

That said, if you are experienced in photography, then you may be able to upgrade the type of camera that you go for. One that has more complicated features and options.

Consider your budget

Another important consideration when it comes to choosing a DLSR camera is to think about how much you are willing to spend. Once you have a budget in mind you can narrow down the choices that you have open to you. Which will help you to make a decision on which camera type is best for you.

Never go below 10 megapixels

The thing to look out for with a camera is how many megapixels it has. This is the total point of light (pixels) that the sensor receives when it creates an image. The megapixel level will affect how your image can be used, rather than the quality of the image. The more megapixels in a picture than the larger it can be made without losing clarity. The majority of new DLSR cameras will have 10 megapixels at least, however, the more megapixels a camera has then of course the better this will be for you and for the images that you take.

Think about modes

If you are new to photography then you are going to want to make sure that the camera that you choose has an auto mode. This will help you to have the right settings for whatever you are shooting, without you having to worry about fiddling around. However, as you learn more about taking a photo, you will want it to have a manual mode too, as this will give you back the control.

Do you have a camera that you want to upgrade or move on from? If you do then you may want to consider selling your camera in order to raise enough funds to buy another one. You may be surprised by just how much a camera can sell for, which means that you have more money to invest into your career or perhaps just your hobby.
