A Camera So Powerful It Can Zoom In On The Moon?

As experts when it comes to camera exchange, here at Camera Exchange Store we like to think that we know a thing or two about camera technologies. But a new camera from Nikon has left even us scratching our heads in awe!

The Nikon Coolpix P900 is not just a camera, it’s a telescope too! That’s right, the zoom on this camera is so powerful, it even allows you to zoom in on the moon – pretty incredible right?!

When the release of this camera was first announced back in March, it seemed like a pretty average piece of kit and nothing to get too excited about. But hidden amongst its many product specifications was the fact that the camera has an 83x optical zoom!

Reality vs Photography: Photoshop

Thanks to our extensive knowledge of the camera industry, we  know a few cheats people use to get the best picture. In this day and age we’re bombarded with images of the perfect this and the perfect that. Glossy lifestyle magazines produce endless photos of stunning men and women showing off their best bits while motor head magazines show off show room cars in seductive lighting. Our Facebooks, Twitter and now the infamous Instagram are plastered with stunning, breathtaking and downright strange photos for our entertainment. But how many of these pictures are real and how many are simply feats of photography?

When it comes to digital alterations we can quite certainly point the finger at Photoshop and other computer systems dedicated to altering your photos image. Blemishes, wrinkle lines, age spots and prominent pores can all be erased and colour can be added with a simple click of a button. Where once photographs used to be our main source of evidence next to our own eye sight, thanks to modern day technology we don’t know if what we’re seeing is the real version of an image or an altered one. A Trick of the Light: Famous Photo Hoaxes

Modern photography goes far beyond taking still-life snapshots to commemorate your holiday tan; with advanced techniques and computer manipulation, you can make almost anything appear on the glossy paper of your photo print. Of course, these powers should only be used for good, and when they are incredible art and even social commentary can be created.

On the slightly darker side of photo manipulation are the hoaxes, and although we don’t recommend trying to replicate them, it can’t be denied that they have a fascinating and rich history – and can show us just how much is possible with a camera and as much imagination as you can get your hand on.

The Cottingley Fairies

 

Is this the most famous photo hoax of all time? The two cousins Elsie Wright and Frances Griffiths have gone down in history for their 5 shots which appeared to show them playing with fairies. Although the original pictures were taken in 1917, it took until the 70s for them to be definitively debunked. Although Elsie’s father was never convinced, they captured the imagination of an era of spiritualism and discovery – with Arthur Conan Doyle being among those captivated. Do you believe? The Most Famous UFO Photos

We all cherish our cameras. After all, they capture some of our fondest memories, catalogue our travels, and make sure cherished family moments last a lifetime.

But that’s not all they can do, cameras have even helped fan the flame of the paranormal investigation. Ghostly images, mysterious creatures and UFOs have all been ‘caught on film’ in some way or another. Usually a whitish smudge or distant blur, but that hasn’t stopped pop culture, movies and people marvelling at them.

Capturing Great Nature Photographs

Last week, the internet went mad for a photo of a lizard that appeared to be channelling Jimi Hendrix as it strummed a guitar-like leaf.

Patience

The key to taking any great photo is patience, and this is crucial if you want to take a great photo while out in the wild.

In nature, you won’t be able to control your subjects or your surroundings. Don’t be in a rush to get your picture; wait for the right lighting, frame and event to capture. If you’re patient, sooner or later you’ll get a photo that you’re completely happy with.
